Carvacrol, also known as 5-Isopropyl-2-Methylphenol or isothymol, is a colorless to yellowish liquid with a pungent odor similar to thymol. It is a monoterpenoid phenolic compound that occurs naturally in the essential oils of the cheilaceae family, such as oregano, thyme, and winter mint, and is formed by sulphonation of cymene. Carvacrol has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial biological activities, and is widely used in spices, food additives, feed additives, antioxidants and pharmaceutical intermediates, agriculture, etc., because of its ability to kill bacteria and intestinal parasites, it is used as a disinfectant and fungicide.
