1,2-Propanediol is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid. Soluble in water, can dissolve a variety of organic solvents such as ethers and alcohols. 1,2-Propanediol has the characteristics of high boiling point and high melting point, and has a good performance in thermal stability. low toxicity.
Propylene glycol is is widely used in many industries: Tobacco humectant; Electronic fogging agent; Cosmetic moisturizer; Solvent, Esterifying agent and Plasticizer for pharmaceutical production;
1,2-propanediol can be prepared by hydration of propylene oxide, hydrolysis of 1,2-dichloropropane, and oxidation of propylene. In cosmetics, toothpaste and soap, propylene glycol can be used as a wetting agent in combination with glycerin or sorbitol. In hair dyes, it can be used as a moisturizing and leveling agent. It can also be used as an antifreeze. It is also used in cellophane, plasticizers and pharmaceuticals industry.
USP grade 1,2-Propanediol is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a solvent, esterifying agent and plasticizer for the manufacture pharmaceuticals;Used as an additive in cosmetics, 1,2-Propanediol has moisturizing, soothing, antifreeze and stabilizing effects;In the coatings and paint industry, 1, 2-propylene glycol is used as a thickener and leveling agent;1,2-PG is also widely used in the production of beverages, food, spices and pigments;1,2-PG is used as atomizing liquid in electronic cigarettes;1,2-PG is used as a co-solvent in pesticide preparations;
Measures for safe handling:
Avoid inhalation or contact with this product. Only use in well ventilated areas. Wash thoroughly with water after handling or use.
Conditions for safe storage:
Although this product will not spontaneously ignite, it is combustible. It will not deteriorate after long-term storage, but it will absorb moisture when opened. Storage and transportation containers should be made of galvanized iron drums, aluminum or stainless steel. Store and transport according to general regulations on low-toxic chemicals. Avoid contact with water and humid environment. Storage tanks must be kept clean, dry, and rust-free. It must be stored in a place with walls, good air circulation, and away from sunlight, open flames and other heat sources. Nitrogen sealing is recommended for large storage tanks (capacity 100 m3 or more). Keep container tightly closed. Keep dry.
