2,4-Pentanedione, also known as Acetylacetone, or diacetylmethane, is an important raw material for organic synthesis. At room temperature, acetyl acetone is a colorless or slightly yellow transparent liquid with a melting point of -23 ° C and a boiling point of 140.6 ° C. Acetyl acetone is slightly soluble in water, and can be miscible with ethanol, ether, chloroform, acetone, glacial acetic acid and other organic solvents. Acetyl acetone can form salts with many metals;
UniVOOK Chemical is a leading supplier of 2, 4-pentanedione. We have also do custom manufacturing followed to clients’ specific requirement on specification. To purchase 2, 4-pentanedione, please contact our Product Manager.
The use and characteristics of 2,4-Pentanedione:
Acetylacetone is a very important intermediate in organic synthesis, which is widely used in the synthesis of organic chemicals in pharmaceutical, fragrance, pesticide and other industries.
— 2, 4-pentanedione can be used to synthesize heterocyclic rings (isoxazole, pyrazole, pyrimidine, pyridine, etc.);
— Acetylacetone is used to prepare metal acetylpyruvates: such as cobalt acetylacetone (21679-46-9), copper acetylacetone (13395-16-9), molybdenum dioxide (17524-05-9), palladium (14024-61-4), manganese acetylacetone, nickel acetylacetone, etc.;
— 2, 4-pentanedione is also used in the production of preservative preparations
— In the pharmaceutical industry, 2, 4-pentanedione is an intermediate in the production of drugs (e.g., sulfaethazine, nicarbazine) and is also an important raw material for vitamin B6 and vitamin K.
— Used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, a desiccant for paints and varnishes, and an important analytical reagent;
— Due to the existence of the enol form, acetylacetone can form chelates with various metal ions such as cobalt (Ⅱ), cobalt (Ⅲ), beryllium, aluminum, chromium, iron (Ⅱ), copper, nickel, palladium, zinc, indium, tin, zirconium, magnesium, manganese, scandium and thorium. These metal chelates of acetylacetone (acetylacetone salts) can be used as additives for fuel oil and lubricating oil. Used as catalyst, resin crosslinking agent, resin curing accelerator; Resin, rubber additives; It is used for hydroxylation reaction, hydrogenation reaction, isomerization reaction, synthesis of low molecular unsaturated ketones, polymerization and copolymerization of low carbon olefin, etc.
— Using its chelation with metals, acetylacetone can be used as a cleaning agent for metals in micropores.
— Acetylacetone is used as organic solvent for cellulose acetate, ink, pigment;
— Acetylacetone is used as a raw material to prepare insecticides, fungicides, animal antidiarrheal drugs and feed additives
